MUSIC store staff are seeking local musicians who think they have what it takes to be the next Madonna or Brian May.

Staff at Woods Music in Market Street, Huddersfield, are holding in-store auditions for their W Factor competition.

The competition, based on TV talent show the X Factor, will see staff listening to the offerings of musicians, sifting through them and coming up with 10 finalists who will go head-to- head in a live final.

Singers and musicians of any age can pop into the store - part of the Williams music store chain - and audition for free.

Successful entrants will be contacted and invited to take part in the live grand final at the store on May 18.

Prizes, including a Shure microphone and guitar, will be awarded to the winners.

Store manager David Courtney said: "We ran the competition last October and it was really successful, so we decided to do it again.

"As a major store in Huddersfield we want to get out into the community a bit more. Events like this talent competition are a great way of doing this."

Auditions can be held at any time during shop opening hours. These are 9am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday and 9.30am to 5.30pm on Saturdays.

Singers can either bring a backing tape or be accompanied by a staff member.
