HUNDREDS of Muslims gathered to celebrate the birthday of the Prophet Muhammad.

The special march through the centre of Huddersfield was staged at the weekend to coincide with global celebrations.

According to Islamic history, Prophet Muhammad was born in the city of Mecca in the Islamic month of Rabi-Ul-Awwal in around 570 AD.

Muslims use the whole of the Islamic month of Rabi-Ul-Awwal to organise celebrations and public processions.

Participants marched through the streets from Birkby Mosque at Halifax Old Road to the Jamia Mosque in Lockwood.
