A HUDDERSFIELD Muslim group gathered to mark the start of Ramadan at the weekend.

Ahmaddiya Muslims in Huddersfield met at their base on Lower Fitzwilliam Street on Saturday , to celebrate the start of the holy month.

Ramadan – the holiest month in the Muslim calendar – began on September 13 and will continue until October 12.

Muslims are required to fast during daylight hours for Ramadan, eating and drinking nothing from about 5am to 7.30pm.

They are also encouraged to give to charity during the month.
