MUSLIMS in Kirklees have condemned the murder of hostage Ken Bigley.

The Indian Muslim Welfare Society said they were appalled and profoundly saddened by the cold-blooded murder of Mr Bigley after a protracted period of mental torture and anguish.

A statement released on behalf of the Society said: "The Muslim community of Batley and Dewsbury offers its heartfelt sympathy and condolences to the Bigley family who have gone through the most dreadful of experiences.

"There can be absolutely no justification for the killing of this defenceless individual. This is a deed that is deeply repugnant and morally reprehensible.

"We unequivocally condemn it and hope that Ken's murderers are brought to justice swiftly.

"Hostage taking and beheading the prisoner is not a practice that is permitted under Islamic law."

The Society added that they were working hard to portray a positive image of Islam and Muslims.

The Bigley murder was contrary to the teachings of Islam and IMWS wished to disassociate itself unequivocally with those who committed the `barbaric' act.
