TWO 18-tonne cement mixer wagons have vanished overnight from a Bradley Mills site.

Aidan Weir, manager of cement company Micromix RM, said he believes the vehicles, worth £50,000 each, must have been stolen as part of a “professional job”.

The 47-year-old is now appealing to anyone who has seen the distinctive 20-foot cement mixer wagons which were stolen between Friday night and Saturday morning from the plant in Bradley Mills.

Aidan said: “It must have been really easy to spot a big wagon driving through the centre of Huddersfield so I’m sure someone must have seen them.

“They are very distinctive vehicles in their own right – big wagons with barrels on the back.

“It looks like they must have gone out of the yard on the back of a low-loader – a big truck like a car transporter. It looks like a professional job.”

The wagons were taken from the yard on Bradley Mills Road between 4pm on Friday evening and 8.15am on Saturday morning.

Aidan said: “The men packed up the vehicles on Friday night but when they came back on Saturday morning there were no vehicles.

“Another difficulty of course, is that we’ve got two drivers here with no wagons to drive now so there’s the prospect of their future employment thrown into question.

“I’ve been in the business in West Yorkshire for 25 years and in that time I’ve only ever known one cement mixer that’s been stolen so it’s quite an unusual event.”

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said: “We received reports that two Mercedes cement mixers had been stolen between 4pm on Friday evening and 8.15am on Saturday morning.

“It is believed the suspects cut through the locks on the gates at the plant, stolen the keys from a portacabin and driven away in the vehicles.

“There is CCTV in the area and it will be looked at as part of our investigations.”

Witnesses are asked to call Huddersfield CID on 0845 6060606 with any information.
