A MAN was fighting for his life after being found collapsed in Huddersfield town centre.

Paramedics were called to an alleyway off John William Street at 4.30am yesterday.

The man was found slumped close to the Camel Club, a popular student venue in Byram Court.

The Ambulance Service alerted police who attended the scene.

Officers taped off the area while investigations were carried out.

The man, identified as a 24-year-old from Halifax, has not been named.

He was taken to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary for treatment.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police yesterday described his condition as “critical.”

Police inquiries are continuing but it is understood there is nothing to suggest the man had been attacked.

Tests were being carried out.

The police spokesman added: “Officers are trying to establish the full circumstances surrounding the man’s collapse.”

The Camel Club could not be contacted for a comment.
