PARENTS of a teenage road crash victim have set up a memorial fund for other bereaved families.

Brighouse student Naomi Gough, 19, died in a horror crash at Burdock Way in Halifax in January.

Now mum and dad Stephen and Beverley have set up a fund through Brighouse charity Support and Care After Road Death and Injury (SCARD).

They want to help cover funeral costs for road accident victims aged 17 to 25.

Stephen said: “When someone dies on the road, most families are not prepared for the sudden cost of the funeral as you do not expect to outlive your children.

“Quite often life insurance is not in place.

“All parents want to give their loved ones a good send-off but not all can afford it.

“The Naomi Cheri Gough Memorial Fund has been set up not only to keep the memory of Naomi alive, but to take the pressure off families who are unprepared for the sudden financial burden.”

People can donate money to the fund, which currently stands at £360, at www.scard.org.uk/memorial funds. They can also add comments.

A tribute on the website says: “Naomi brought so much love, laughter and happiness into the lives of all who were lucky enough to meet her.”

A sponsored walk is taking place from August 1 to 3, from Halifax to Blackpool.

Naomi visited the seaside resort on the day she died.
