A FORMER student at Greenhead College, Huddersfield, has won the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award.

Natalie Pointon, 19, has been invited to St James's Palace, London, to receive the award at a ceremony hosted by the duke.

A variety of other famous faces will also be there, including yachtswoman Tracy Edwards and former sprinter Linford Christie.

Natalie, formerly of Springside Rise, Golcar, won her award while a student at Greenhead.

She qualified for it by volunteering as a young leader at Parkwood Brownie pack, Golcar.

She also helped at a five-day holiday for deprived children and trekked round the Isle of Arran in Scotland.

Natalie achieved her DoE bronze award while a pupil at All Saints High School Bradley Bar.

After leaving Greenhead she worked for a year at staff agency NHS Professionals in Halifax.

Natalie is now at Leicester University, studying law and economics.

Her parents now live in Warrington.
