FAMILY fun was on offer at the National Coal Mining Museum’s third annual Miners’ Gala.

The gala was held yesterday at the museum at Overton, near Grange Moor.

It featured family craft sessions such as kite-making and rag-rugging, as well as living history demonstrations and a Punch and Judy show.

Children could ride a helter-skelter, fairground rides or enjoy a trip on a donkey and explore the adventure playground.

Entertainment was provided by museum mascot Maurice The Miner, Westgate Cheerleaders, Wakefield Morris Dancers, Grange Moor Brass Band, members of the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats rugby league team and Real Radio.

Visitors could also enjoy the museum’s usual attractions, including a tour 140ft below ground.
