A Huddersfield fundraiser is willing to put his name on the line for the charity he founded in memory of his late son.

Neil David Salmon will be officially changing his name by Deed Poll to add a second middle name to raise funds for the Joseph Salmon Trust.

The charity was set up in memory of the couple’s three-year-old son Joseph who died of pneumonia in 2005.

So on his birthday later this year he will add the fourth name to his current line up of between Neil David and his surname Salmon.

Neil said: “I wanted to do something different and I was inspired by Natalie Robinson who changed her name by Deed Poll in aid of Forget Me Not Trust.

“I think people can have a bit of fun with the suggestions and I will go with which ever name is picked from an online poll.

“It’s a minimum of £1 per suggestion and people have already been generous and donated £10 per guess but its really what people can afford.”

And so far names suggested have been somewhat fishy in essence given Neil’s surname.

He added: “We’ve had ‘smoked’ and ‘John West’ but I like ‘danger’. Although it could get me into trouble at customs when going on holiday!”

“I really don’t mind and just want to raise as much money as possible.”

Natalie Robinson added Pumpkin to her names on Halloween last year and raised more than £600 for the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice in Huddersfield.

What’s in a name?

According to Deed Poll thousands of people choose a new moniker for one reason or another. It has been possible to change names by deed poll since 1760 but a decade ago, only 15,000 people did so each year. Now, spurred on by separations, pub pranks and thanks to the online service provided at thelegaldeedpollservice.org.uk, more people than ever are doing so.

An increasing number of newly-weds are deciding to double-barrel their names, as well as those choosing the name of their favourite celebrity.

Fun names issued by Deed Polls include Jellyfish McSaveloy, Toasted T Cake, Nineteen Sixty-Eight, Hong Kong Phooey, Daddy Fantastic, One-One-Eight Taxi, Ting A Ling, Huggy Bear, Donald Duck, Jojo Magicspacemonkey and James Bond.
