Detectives have arrested three men over a terrifying shotgun raid on a Thongsbridge general store – but are still appealing for witnesses.

A masked raider armed with a long-barrelled shotgun burst into the Londis store in Town Gate on Monday afternoon and threatened a female assistant.

The man pointed the weapon in her face and demanded she put cash and cigarettes into a white drawstring JD Sports bag.

The woman handed over the money and the man fled.

Kirklees CID want to speak to anyone with information or any witnesses who were in the area at around 4pm.

The suspect is described as white, around 16 to 19-years-old, around 5ft 4in tall, of slim build with fair blond hair.

He wore a black and white face covering and a black jacket with white writing across it.

Acting Det Sgt Pete Usher, of Kirklees CID, said: “This was clearly a terrifying experience for the female shop assistant.

“Thankfully, no one was injured during the incident, however the fact that the man was carrying a firearm underlines the level of threat.

“We have already made three arrests in connection with this but we are appealing for any witnesses.”

Police stepped up patrols in the quiet village to reassure the public. They also sealed off Cross Lane, Primrose Hill, in their hunt for the gunman.
