A masked gunman brought terror to a quiet village.

And a female shop worker was left terrified after the armed raid on a village store near Holmfirth in broad daylight.

The masked man burst into the Londis shop at Town Gate, Netherthong just after 4pm yesterday and threatened the woman behind the till with a firearm.

Shop owner, Warren Halstead, confirmed the robber had got away with hundreds of pounds.

“Someone has come in with a mask on and pointed some sort of gun at her,” he said.

“He said: ‘Fill that with money’.

“She was absolutely terrified, she’s a complete wreck.

“It’s the first time I’ve been robbed in 27 years of running this store.”

Mr Halstead said no-one had been hurt and the man had fled the scene as soon as he got the cash.

The shop was shut as police descended on the Holme Valley village.

The West Yorkshire Police helicopter was joined by dog teams and armed units as officers hunted the robber.
