ARSONISTS have gutted Paddock Cricket Club's historic pavilion.

Firecrews from Brighouse and Elland spent about two hours bringing the blaze under control on Saturday night.

It is the second time in just over a month the building has been hit by fire.

The changing rooms and score box at the West View Rise club were damaged in another serious blaze at the beginning of last month.

Then, it appeared someone had broken into a storeroom and set it alight.

In Saturday's attack, the score box was set on fire.

Committee members had just received an estimate for repairs.

"It's the same building but they finished it off," said club secretary Peter Booth.

"It's a wreck. The first time was bad enough but we could have rebuilt. Whether we can re-build it now I don't know."

The main clubhouse containing the function room and bar on the opposite side of the ground was unaffected by the blaze.

The pavilion dates back more than 80 years. Two years ago, the club spent £5,000 putting a new roof on the building after vandal attacks.
