DETECTIVES have made a renewed bid to catch a killer 10 years after he murdered a schoolgirl.

Lindsay Jo Rimer vanished after leaving her home in Hebden Bridge to buy a packet of cornflakes from a nearby corner shop on Monday, November 7, 1994.

The 13-year-old stopped at the Trades Club on Holme Street on her way and then went to the shop, where she paid for the cornflakes at 10.22pm.

That was the last time she was seen and despite police talking to 5,000 people and taking several hundred statements, the killer has not been caught.

After she vanished there was a huge police hunt to find her, but there was no trace for five months.

Her body was found in the Rochdale Canal, which runs through Hebden Bridge.

Police hope that with the passage of time, someone with vital information may now be willing to talk to them and solve the murder.

They are sure the answer lies in Hebden Bridge.

Det Supt John Parkinson said: "It may be that someone has harboured a suspicion for 10 years that a friend, relative or acquaintance could have killed Lindsay.

"With the passage of time, someone who was unable to come forward and speak to us a decade ago might now be in a position to do so.

"I would urge them to contact us in confidence."

He added: "Over the past few weeks we have traced and spoken to a number of Lindsay's schoolfriends to see if they could recall anything further that may help our inquiries.

"It could be that someone locally put something to the back of their mind 10 years ago that they are now free to tell us.

"Anyone we do speak to will be treated with sensitivity.

"We are hoping that someone will provide that vital piece of information we need.

"I believe someone somewhere still has this crime on their conscience.

"I am in no doubt that the answer lies locally in Hebden Bridge."
