THOUSANDS of residents will soon receive wheeled bins for the first time.
Householders in Elland and Brighouse will get the bins over the next month.
They will also receive a kitchen caddy with a supply of corn starch liners, a lockable food waste bin and a plastic bag for recycling plastic bottles.
Calderdale Council will begin delivering 64,000 bins across the district from February 16, with the new collection system beginning in April.
The council’s cabinet member for health Clr Graham Reason, said the new bins will help Calderdale achieve tough recycling targets.
He said: “Like every council in the land, we have to increase our recycling rates for household waste or face stiff financial penalties.
“The new system will make it much easier for people to recycle. We already know that people in Calderdale are keen to improve their environment through increased household waste recycling. By working together, we can ensure that Calderdale achieves some of the best recycling rates in the country.”
The council is holding 36 recycling roadshows to help explain the new system to residents.
Clr Reason said: “We want to make sure that everyone who gets a wheeled bin understands how the system will work and how it can help improve the environment for us all.”
