BOY RACERS are to be targeted in a new clampdown on Lindley Moor.

Lunatic drivers often use the road next to Outlane Cricket Club as a late-night racetrack.

Reports of anti-social behaviour also include drug abuse, fly-tipping and even "dogging", with people meeting for sex.

But now local Kirklees councillor Tony Brice has teamed up with police to try to stamp out the problems.

Police are increasing patrols in the area and local people have been asked to note down vehicle numbers and pass them on.

The moor has been a hotspot for car racing in the past.

Earlier this year boulders were dropped at the entrance, to stop 4x4 drivers taking their vehicles on the land.

But now groups of yobs are putting lives at risk by speeding down the narrow road by the side of the moor.

Dad-of-two James Pare, 36, lives next to the moor and says there are problems almost every night.

He added: "I have seen all sorts. Some of it disgusting and some of it dangerous.

"Gangs of youths drive up here and drink and smoke drugs. They then race their cars along the road.

"It is very dangerous and only a matter of time before somebody is hurt. I just hope it is not an innocent pedestrian.

"I disturbed a gang once and they dropped a bag of cannabis and raced off. I handed it to the police.

"Now it has got to the point where we need to get something done. We used to have trouble with the 4x4s, but that is sorted now."

Clr Brice has vowed to beat the yobs.

He said: "This is a beauty spot and I am determined it will stay that way. As a full time councillor I have been able to give a lot of effort to making sure Lindley Moor is not abused.

"We have achieved some very good things there and I won't let that be ruined by a few idiots.

"The police will be up there more now we have alerted them to what is going on.

"These people need to know they cannot continue racing cars here. The police will catch them sooner or later. We are even looking at having CCTV cameras in the area."
