POLICE have some useful information after an appeal in the Examiner about a nasty attack.

It can also be revealed today that a third man was badly hurt in a fracas at Slaithwaite Saracens Rugby League Club.

The trouble led to a 37-year-old Slaithwaite man suffering serious head injuries, including a fractured skull.

He is still in a specialist neurological unit at Leeds General Infirmary, where his condition is said to be stable.

Now it has emerged that a man in his early 20s suffered a broken jaw in the same incident and faces specialist treatment.

A third man suffered cuts and bruises when he went to try to help the 37-year-old. It is understood his actions saved the victim from even further harm.

The attackers are said to be a group of men in their 20s.

The trouble erupted at the club on Commercial Street during the first few minutes of Sunday morning.

A 21st birthday party was being held at the club and police urge partygoers or anyone else who saw what happened to contact them.

Det Sgt Mick Smith, of Kirklees CID based in Huddersfield, said: “As a result of the appeal for information in the Examiner we have received some good information and are following up some promising leads.’’

Anyone else who has information should phone Det Con Neil Willan on 01484 436706 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
