PEOPLE wanting to break into the radio industry may benefit from courses being held in Huddersfield.

Nisar Smiler, who runs Radio Paigham on 87.7 FM from his Springwood home, is offering to teach wannabe DJs the tricks of the trade for free.

The course, which he holds every six months, is open to people of all ages and abilities.

During six sessions they are shown how to operate the studio, interviewing techniques and the rules and regulations of radio. The course starts tomorrow.

Mr Smiler began his radio career in the 1980s after discovering a passion for the industry in Japan. He went on to work at stations including Bradford-based Sunrise and Asian Sound in Manchester before setting up a radio station for the Huddersfield community at his home.

He said: “It’s a difficult industry to get into so I want to help others by passing on my skills for free.”
