THE new sergeant of a neighbourhood policing team has made it her mission to clean up her patch.

Sgt Sarah Baker has joined the Dewsbury and Mirfield Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT).

She wants to clear up the area near a new library and children’s centre in Thornhill Lees that has been blighted by litter.

She said: “The centre is a positive addition to the neighbourhood, offering youth groups, healthy eating sessions and courses.

“But just down the street there is rubbish everywhere. It is quite a deprived area and we are going to try to get it cleaned up.”

Sgt Baker, who will be working alongside sergeants Janet Clemmett and Steve Forrest, used to work as a traffic officer in Huddersfield.

“This is a new side of policing for me and a great challenge,” she said.
