A TOWN’S Olympic greats have been honoured in a new DVD.

Mirfield’s Cycling Heritage celebrates the four riders from the town who have represented Britain on the biggest stage of all.

The 50-minute DVD includes archive footage of brothers Brian and Des Robinson, Brian’s daughter Louise and Lisa Brambani.

It was launched at a special event at Castle Hall School in the town.

Mirfield Conservative Clr Martyn Bolt – himself a keen cyclist – said: “Seventy people turned up for the launch despite the stormy weather. The DVD was warmly received by the cyclists, who held a question-and-answer session afterwards.”

The DVD includes footage of Brian and Des becoming the first brothers to compete together at an Olympic cycling event in Helsinki in 1952.

There is also previously unseen footage of Brian winning a stage of the Tour de France in 1959 by 20 minutes – the fourth largest winning margin in the event’s history.

Viewers can also see Lisa competing at the 1988 games in Seoul and Louise taking part in the 2000 games in Sydney.

The DVD, which is funded by Kirklees Council’s Mirfield Area Committee, is on sale for £5 at Mirfield Library and Sowerby Cycles in the town. All money raised will go towards the Kirklees Cycling Academy.
