New environment role for Yorkshire Euro-MP Linda McAvan

A YORKSHIRE politician has been elected to a top post.

Linda McAvan has been voted in as senior spokeswoman on the environment for the Alliance of Socialists and Democrats, the centre-left group in the European Parliament.

Ms McAvan, Labour Euro-MP for Yorkshire, said: “I am really pleased to be taking up this new role.

“So many of the environmental problems we face today cannot be resolved by one country alone. Pollution does not respect national boundaries, and that is where common European rules can make a real difference.”
