A new era has dawned for the historic Territorial Army in Huddersfield.

New signs have gone up on the Drill Hall in St Paul’s Street, signifying a new future for what is now the ‘Army Reserve’

Troops from the 4th Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment watched the installation of its new signage as an ‘Army Reserve Centre’ – marking one of the most significant changes to what was formerly known as the Territorial Army in its 100 year history.

It cements their enhanced role as a part of the whole force army.

The unit is also on the, lookout for more volunteer to sign up.

Revitalising the Reserve Forces to become far more integrated with its Regular counterpart, the unit needs to increase its number of reservists to help grow the overall Army Reserve to 30,000 – nearly double that of its current strength.

And with enhanced benefits, pay and training the unit is already seeing an increase in enquiries from all walks of life, from IT managers to lorry drivers.

But, as Warrant Officer Gavin Roberts, the company’s recruitment officer, pointed out the message that the Army Reserve is recruiting and still needs more people to join them is vitally important:

“Seeing the new signage go up is a real milestone in the new way ahead for the Army Reserve. It’s an exciting future with a wider range of roles, better training and more opportunities to do things that you never imagined you’d be doing. Over the years we have supported many operational tours and as West Yorkshire’s Army Reserve infantry company, we aim to be at the forefront of that change.

If you’re looking to do something extra with your life, while at the same time learning and enhancing new skills, making new friends, and of course getting paid for the privilege, then there really is no better time in becoming a member of the Army Reserve in Corunna Company.”

People interested can contact the unit by visiting www.army.mod.uk/4yorks or contact Corunna Company 4th Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment on 01484 516030.
