A NEW president has taken over at the Sikh Temple.

Sukhdev Singh Chahal has welcomed in a new era at the Guru Nanak Sikh Temple on Prospect Street.

He was handed the new role by outgoing president Kundan Singh Aujla while the Major of Kirklees, Clr Karam Hussain looked on.

Guru Nanak Temple secretary Inderpal Randhawa said: “Our outgoing president Kundan Singh Aujla thanks everyone in the community for their support.

“Sukhdev Singh Chahal is looking forward to the next two years and is very happy about being elected as our president.

“He wants to get all the communities together and for people to come and see the Sikh Temple and learn about Sikhism.”

They will soon welcome hundreds of schools children to the Sikh Temple.

Meanwhile members of the temple also donated £300 to the Mayor of Kirklees Charity Appeal which will support the Laura Crane Trust and the Dewsbury Diabetic Clinic.
