A NEW healthy lifestyle project for families is running in 2011.

Start, the Kirklees Council-run weight management programme for children and young people, wants to help youngsters get on to the right road to a healthier lifestyle with a free three-day holiday scheme at February half-term.

The Start team held its first ever holiday scheme in Liversedge during last October’s half-term break and it turned out to be such a huge success that another is being organised for Tuesday February 22 to Thursday February 24 at a venue in Spenborough.

It will involve a wide range of activities and the chance to learn about nutrition and healthy lifestyles – but, most of all, the emphasis will be on fun.

Seventeen youngsters from all areas of Kirklees took part in the October scheme.

Abi Mackenzie, of Kirklees Sport and Physical Activity Development, said: “When the children were asked what they enjoyed the most, their comments included doing different sports, the games, the swimming, the dance mats and SHOKK gym”.

The February holiday scheme is for children and young people aged 8-14 years. Participants must attend all three days from 8.45am to 4pm.
