FRESH flood defences will be considered by a new working party set up to prevent a re-run of recent weeks.

The Environment Agency and Calderdale Council are proposing a joint working group to include British Waterways, Yorkshire Water and the local community to look at the whole of Upper Calderdale and consider all options for reducing the risk of flooding.

The aim will be to gather information on all the causes of flooding and identify a broad range of options to reduce the risk as well as improve resilience.

The Agency said it would have plans drawn up by October.

Ian Foster, the Agency’s flood duty manager for Yorkshire, said: “We are proposing that this group would put in place a targeted plan.”
