A SUPPORT group for people with bowel cancer has just been set up.

Patients from across Huddersfield and Halifax are invited to take part in the monthly meetings to share their experiences.

Bowel cancer is the second most common cancer in the UK, with 203 people in this area alone being diagnosed with it last year.

The group will offer advice and support to people at different stages of treatment.

Michelle Speight, specialist colo-rectal nurse at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust, said: “Many people feel it helps to get together and the trust would like to offer an extra service for our patients.”

The informal group will meet on the third Thursday of every month.

The next meeting will be held on November 15 at the Watermill pub, Salterhebble, Halifax.

It will run from 1pm to 3pm and light refreshments will be served.

Anyone affected is welcome to attend.
