A CAMPAIGN to support farmers in developing countries is gaining momentum in the Holme Valley.

Members of the Holme Valley Fairtrade Group have produced a free directory to raise awareness about the scheme.

The Fairtrade scheme - which helps people in Third World countries to receive a fair price for the goods they trade - has already received the backing of shops, cafes and restaurants across the Holme Valley.

Products including wine, coffee, chocolate and fresh fruit are among those being sold at various outlets, including the Co-op's Pioneer store, Holmfirth.

Now, a booklet has been produced to promote the scheme in the Holme Valley.

The directory, which will be available at places selling Fairtrade goods.

It provides people with more information about the scheme and lists local companies involved.

Peter Beetlestone, of the Holme Valley Fairtrade Group, said: "It is about giving people in developing countries more dignity, by letting them work their way out of poverty and enabling them to make a decent living."
