A TEACHER has spoken of the “ghettos” which would be created by schools re-organisation in North Kirklees.

Headfield Junior School teacher Saleh Rahman said divisions in the community would be created by the proposals.

He was speaking at an address to mark his election as president of the Kirklees branch of the National Union of Teachers for 2010.

Mr Rahman has taught in West Yorkshire for many years and has worked in North Kirklees since 2007.

Speaking about plans to re-organise schools in Batley he said: “We must build a united campaign of opposition to the BSF privatisation.

“It is obvious to us that what we need is ‘to ensure that all children have access to a good local community school.’

“Politicians say this but we need to show them how to achieve it.”

Mr Rahman is keen for all those who work in education, to be part of one union.

“By recognising that we have a common aim we can better work together and challenge the poor practices and policies that exist,” he said.

Other Officers elected to the Kirklees NUT Committee for 2010 included Howard Roberts as secretary, Robert Tellez as treasurer and Keith Williamson as vice-president.
