A DARK and dangerous stretch of road will be made safer by new lighting.

Back Station Road in Mirfield is regularly used by train travellers going to and from Mirfield Station.

But a section of the road next to the disused Holdsworth Mill is poorly lit. The street has been the site of several muggings.

But now Kirklees Council has agreed to install new lights by the end of January.

This follows pressure from Dewsbury MP Shahid Malik.

Mr Malik said: “I was pleased to help local residents by brokering these meetings and making sure t this lighting was installed.

“Permanent street lighting on Back Station Road will solve what is a genuine safety concern.

“After the attacks many people now refuse to walk down the road and prefer the extra cost and inconvenience of taking a taxi. These are serious concerns which needed to be addressed.”
