BATLEY Library will be back in business at the end of the month after a major refurbishment.

The library building has been closed for just over a year for work costing nearly £½m to be carried out as part of a major investment programme in Kirklees Libraries, but it is scheduled to re-open on February 28.

"The closure has been longer than we had hoped, but I'm sure our customers will feel it has been worth the wait," said Ann Blakeley, Library Manager North Kirklees.

"As well as improvements such as redecoration, new carpets, shelving, furniture and a new central counter, the biggest visible change is a three-storey extension.

"That houses a new lift, allowing disabled customers access to the first floor, and disabled toilets on the ground and first floors. In add- ition, the building has been given a completely new heating system and work has also been carried out on the electrics and telephones."

The layout of the library remains the same apart from on the ground floor.

The Children's Library has swapped places with the Sound and Vision Library, which also houses the teenage section and the public access computers.
