NEW measures to control and prevent contagious infections have been installed in Huddersfield and Halifax Hospitals.

Hygienic gel dispensers and warning floor signs have been placed in Huddersfield Royal Infirmary and Calderdale Royal Hospital.

Colour-coded signs at entrances to wards and departments warn people to use the adjacent gel dispensers before entering.

Matron Louise Taylor said: “The handgel kills about 99 per cent of germs in around 30 seconds and dries naturally on the skin.

Yvette Oade, medical director of Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust – responsible for both hospitals – said: “We are committed to minimising the risk of infection.

“And to tackle this, health professionals and the public have to work together.

“The new signs are about promoting and highlighting the importance of good hand hygiene, which is widely recognised as the single most important factor in reducing the spread of infections.”
