A BURGLAR has been jailed for more than two years after he was caught inside the home of a man who had died on Christmas Day.
Michael Donohoe, 24, of Royds Avenue, New Mill, was arrested after reports of an intruder inside a flat in the Thornhill area of Dewsbury.
A kitchen window had been broken during the raid on January 5 and Donohoe, who was in the flat, at first claimed he lived there and had broken in because he had lost his keys.
He was jailed for two years and 146 days at Leeds Crown Court after admitting burglary with intent to steal.
Donohoe, who has previous convictions for burglary, told the court he had no idea the person who lived in the flat had died so recently.
