THEY met while working in a Holmfirth textile mill.

And now Bob and Lil Wilson have celebrated their diamond wedding at their home at Royds Avenue, New Mill.

Both were young workers at the former Washpit Mills, where Mrs Wilson was in the weaving shed and Mr Wilson was in the yarn store.

Mrs Wilson later worked as a volunteer assistant at Lydgate Infants School in New Mill.

Her husband worked on farms in East Yorkshire for a time and after his National Service in the Royal Corps of Signals spent 42 years at Hepworth Iron Company.

The couple were married at Gawthorpe Church.

They enjoy gardening and holidays. Mrs Wilson has also been involved for many years with the Royal British Legion women’s section.

They have five children, eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

They celebrated with a party for friends and family at Underbank Rugby League Club.
