A MINIBEAST hotel, reading area and pond are just a few of the features of Thurstonland First School’s new garden.
Years of planning finally paid off yesterday, as Kirkburton Parish Councillor Robert Barraclough opened the Ann Ludlam Garden in the school.
The land used was owned by a trust, who donated it to the first school.
Headteacher Christine Kirton said: “The two previous headteachers had started the plans off and in the last year they have come in to place.
“The land was not council owned it was owned by a private trust.
“We have talked with them about the garden and they have allowed us to go ahead, as long as it is named after the woman that started the trust – Ann Ludlam.
“It is a fantastic garden, we are so pleased.
“It also has a bird bath and a bird feeding stations and a willow arch.
“It is a wonderful addition to the school and we have needed an outdoor area for some time.”
