NEW plans have been submitted for a community centre next to a Ravensthorpe mosque.

Work on the building in Crawshaw Street had to be halted after residents complained about the partly-built structure, which was bigger than shown on the original planning application.

Work on the centre, next to the Albion pub, will only continue if the new plans are approved.

Ravensthorpe Community Centre officials also submitted an application to Kirklees Council to extend their building on Garden Street.

Centre manager Abdul Aslam said: "The centre has been short of childcare places. At present it can only hold eight children and there has been a demand in the increase for childcare."

The two-storey extension will contain childcare facilities - mainly for children of people who are learning in the centre - an after-school club and an IT suite.
