YOUNG people could have a new play area soon.

Kirklees Council wants to build an adventure area at Kidroyd Recreation Ground off Somerset Road in Almondbury.

It would include a climbing frame and rope swing and would be aimed at children up to the age of 13.

The council’s Huddersfield South Area Committee has committed £30,000 to the plan.

Committee member Clr John Smithson said: “The adventure area would provide something for older children.

“A lot of people complain about kids hanging around on street corners.

“The more activity opportunities they have, the better it is for all for us.

“There’s a similar adventure area in Fernside Park which has been pretty successful.”

Kirklees has applied for planning permission for the Kidroyd development, with a decision to be reached on May 9 at the earliest.

If the adventure area gets the go-ahead it would be ready to open within a month.
