CHILDREN are having fun after a new play area was opened.

Play time was officially launched at the Fern Lea Recreation Ground in Lindley.

Children aged eight to 13 enjoyed games, sports and arts and crafts at the play area on Fern Lea Road.

The Department of Children, Schools and Families contributed £40,000 to the playground while Bovis Homes gave £10,000.

Clr Christine Stanfield praised the developer for helping fund the play area.

The Lindley Lib Dem councillor said: “If Bovis Homes hadn’t come up with the seed money, it’s unlikely we would have received the rest of the funding from the Government.”

Clr Stanfield added: “The new play area will be particularly good for parents and young people in Birchencliffe and Lindley. Safe and exciting play areas are a huge benefit to the whole community.”
