NEW equipment to help blind people get more out of books is on the way to Huddersfield.

Kirklees Transcription Service in Huddersfield Library, will be launching SARA – a scanning and reading machine – on June 4.

The equipment is designed to help the blind and those with low vision to read printed materials.

By simply placing a document on the scanner and pressing a button, it will read aloud a range of materials, including mail and important documents in a crisp, clear, human-like voice. Headphones can also be worn for privacy.

The machine is available for public use from Wednesdays to Fridays from 9.30am to 12.30pm and at other times by appointment.
