A WALK along the Huddersfield Narrow Canal will be an informative experience.

New interpretation boards and signposts have gone up along the towpath from Tunnel End to Milnsbridge.

The signposts tell the story of the canal and the how the lives of the valley communities have changed. Each has a map of the valley and a zinc etching where children can take rubbings using a crayon and a piece of paper.

Other developments alongside the canal by Kirklees Council and British Waterways over the last year have included a new wharf area at Milnsbridge, a public toilet at Slaithwaite and street lighting at Milnsbridge and Linthwaite.

Work at Rotcher and Tunnel End picnic sites has created relaxing spots for visitors.

Laurence Morgan, British Waterways regional general manager, said: "The interpretation boards, and the improvements being made to facilities will show visitors the wealth of history, wildlife and attractions along the canal."
