You are standing on the side of a muddy football field, battered by the wind and rain, when all of a sudden a player does the most extraordinary trick with the ball and scores a wonder goal. The skinny kid instantly becomes a superstar.

That chance to spot the next Lionel Messi or Gareth Bale is now being offered to people in Huddersfield.

Kirklees College has been chosen by the International Professional Scouting Organisation (IPSO) as the first college in the UK to run their football scouting course.

The Level 1 Foundation Skills in Professional Scouting course is run by international, and Premier League, scouts and offers students the opportunity to improve their skills and knowledge in football scouting and player/team analysis.

The course is aimed at current scouts, managers, coaches and agents in football, as well as people aspiring to be scouts, agents or coaches.

A Championship club like Huddersfield Town will use a network of dozens of scouts bth in the UK and abroad.

Head of Department for Sport and Public Services, Christian Thersby is delighted that the college has been chosen.

“Kirklees College are excited to be linking up with the International Professional Scouting Organisation to help deliver this unique football scouting course,” he said.

“This will be the first time the course will be run in the UK and IPSO have chosen Kirklees College as their first location.”

Christian also believes the course will be a massive boost for sport at Kirklees College.

“This course is a massive boost for us at in trying to promote sport and I am sure this is the start of a great partnership with IPSO leading in to the future.”

The course will run over four evenings in October from 5pm to 9pm on the 19th, 20th, 26th and 27th at Kirklees College and costs £195.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to attend a professional football match, to assess a professional player as part of the course.

IPSO have delivered their courses all across Europe to scouts at professional clubs, having started their business in Slovakia and Poland, they are now looking to expand their courses to the UK, partnering up with Kirklees College to provide the best football scouting course in the country.

Christian said: “It is an exciting opportunity for people who are looking to become football scouts, but is also a great opportunity for professional and semi-professional scouts on this course.”
