A FORMER post office could soon be turned into a taxi office.
Mohammed Anwar, of Halifax Old Road, has asked Kirklees Council for permission to convert Birkby Post Office at Wheathouse Road.
The post office closed in November.
Residents can have their say on the plan, which would create two full-time and two part-time jobs until March 17.
Clr Mehboob Khan, who represents the area on Kirklees Council, encouraged people to speak up.
The Greenhead Labour man said: “Local residents have an opportunity to put forward their views to Kirklees on the merits of this application.
“People will have to bear in mind that the building has been used as a post office and shop so it’s established as a business.
“I would like to hear people’s comments about the traffic implications.
“Residents may want to comment on the proposed opening hours of this business.”
Clr Khan believes some sort of development is needed at the site. He said: “We need to bear in mind that we have an empty shop at the moment which is beginning to look derelict.
“We need to find some appropriate use.”
Anyone wishing to comment on the planning application can ring Clr Khan on 01484 221 814 or email email@example.com
Kirklees planning officers will make their decision on the application after the period of public consultation comes to an end.
Birkby Post Office was one of nine branches in and around the Huddersfield area which was closed last year.
