HUDDERSFIELD'S Remembrance Day Sunday service has been switched to the Town Hall this year.

The move has been made because renovation work is being carried out at Huddersfield Parish Church.

It also means more people will be able to attend the service in the main hall at the Town Hall.

If the service on November 12 had stayed in the church the numbers allowed on the balcony would have been restricted for health and safety reasons.

The Vicar of Huddersfield, the Rev Catherine Ogle, said the balcony repairs were part of major refurbishments.

Woodwork in the balcony was being repaired after years of wear and tear and beams were being strengthened.

She said: "We are very sorry to have to move the venue this year and hope the people of Huddersfield will support our appeal so that work will be completed by Remembrance Sunday next year."

Kirklees Mayor Clr Donald Firth said: "The format for the service of Remembrance will be exactly the same as last year. The only change is the venue.

"Everyone is welcome to attend and I hope the people of Huddersfield will support this service as much as in previous years and join together with us to remember those who lost their lives to give us our freedom."

There will be a parade from Huddersfield Parish Church to the Town Hall.

People are asked to assemble at the church at 10am, where Mrs Ogle will give a blessing before the parade sets off at 10.15am.

The route to the Town Hall will be along Byram Street, St Peter's Street, John William Street, New Street and Ramsden Street. The mayor will take the salute at Market Place.

Light refreshments will be provided in the Town Hall after the service.
