POLICE believe robbers have struck twice in Greenhead Park in just a couple of days.

Now they have urged people walking in the area late at night to be extra- vigilant.

The Examiner revealed yesterday that two men aged 19 and 20 were robbed at knifepoint as they walked along Park Avenue just before 1am on Wednesday.

They were robbed by an African-Caribbean man with a knife who demanded mobile phones, cash and their wallets, which they handed over.

Police believe the same mugger has struck again in the same area, this time with an accomplice.

Two 20-year-old men were walking on Greenhead Road towards Gledholt Bank just before 4am yesterday when they saw a silver BMW cruising round the area and men in the car were staring at them.

The victims felt intimidated and fled into the park to hide, but the two men caught up with them.

One of the victims felt an object pushed into his back.

The thieves demanded their wallets and mobile phones, which they handed over.

One of the thieves is African-Caribbean, in his early 20s, about 6ft tall and slim. He wore a dark hooded top with a navy blue bandana shielding his face.

His accomplice is white, in his early 20s and about 6ft 2in.

Pc Tony Marshall, of Kirklees CID said: “We believe these robberies are linked and would urge anyone who has seen these men in the area in a silver BMW.

“Has anyone been so suspicious they noted its number? People can call us or Crimestoppers in confidence with any information that could help this investigation.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Pc Marshall or Pc Diveck Ubhi on 01484 436556 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
