SHE is determined this is the year she will go all the way.

One of last year’s losers returned to The X Factor last night to try again after being inspired by a rugby playing relative.

And Huddersfield singer Carolynne Poole wowed the judges with her performance of Emeli Sande’s, Clown.

Lead judge Gary Barlow told her she could be “the dark horse of the competition”.

Louis Walsh remarked: “You’re looking better and you’re sounding better,” while Tulisa Contostavlos agreed, saying: “Whatever Louis thought was missing, I think this year, you’ve got it.”

Guest judge Mel B described her performance as “absolutely incredible”.

Poole, in an emotional post-audition interview, said: “I feel so immensely happy and like I want to cry my eyes out at the same time, it’s such a weird feeling.

“This is my shot and I am taking it, grabbing it and going for it.”

Carolynne, of Birkby, performed for the panel in a bid to win a second chance at success after Louis Walsh sent her home from the judges’ houses stage last year.

The 31-year-old said she had nearly given up her dreams of stardom after a bad year.

She said: “Last year myself and my husband David had been through IVF and it had failed, then my marriage was in tatters.

“I had lost him and I had lost the hope of a family and I had lost the hope of a career singing.

“I felt like there was no coming back from that”.

She told Walsh his rejection broke her heart, adding: “I’ll be honest with you I felt pretty sorry for myself for a few months.

“My cousin dragged me out of bed and she plays rugby for England so I didn’t argue with her.

“She took me rugby training and she told me to stop feeling sorry for myself, knocked a bit of sense into me and give me a bit of my fight back and just reminded me of the fighting Yorkshire lass that I thought I was.”

Carolynne has been singing since the age of 14.

Her first appearance on The X Factor last year saw her give a stunning rendition of the Miley Cyrus hit The Climb which brought her a standing ovation and tremendous praise.

Panel judge Tulisa Contostavlos said: “I can see you in the final.”

Kelly Rowland and Louis Walsh also raved about her vocal performance but it was Walsh who rejected her when the competition reached the judges’ homes stage.

Carolynne is married to former footballer David Poole.

He used to play for Stockport County but is now playing for non-league Hyde.

Carolynne was brought up in Leeds and joined a country band at the age of 14. At 17 she moved to London and continued her singing career.

She appeared on the TV talent show Fame Academy in 2003 and finished third, and followed that with a nationwide tour with singer Tony Christie.

She returned to West Yorkshire in 2008 and married David and then decided last year to audition for the X Factor.
