COUNCILLORS have spoken out about plans for a burger van in Huddersfield town centre.

Zulfiqar Ahmed and Mariyam Bibi have asked Kirklees Council for a licence to trade on Macaulay Street.

The council’s Regulatory Panel will decide on the request on Monday.

But Newsome councillors Andrew Cooper and Julie Stewart-Turner have asked for permission to be refused.

Clr Stewart-Turner said: “I object to a burger van being parked outside an Italian cafe which has not been allowed to put any marketing material outside the shop.”

Her Green colleague Clr Cooper added: “I object to a vehicle being sited on a pedestrianised area.

“It would be moving on and off the site at busy times of day.

“Not ideal.”
