A “HEARTY” rendition of a Roald Dahl classic has won recognition for a Newsome Junior School pupil.

Ten-year-old Morgan Brook recited “The Pig”, off by heart for a BBC national competition.

Morgan came second in the Yorkshire and Humberside regional final of the BBC National poetry recital competition called “Off by Heart.”

A competition was held in school in December with the finalist attending Sheffield Children’s Library at the beginning of the month.

The competition is open to pupils aged seven to 11 in the United Kingdom and aims to revive the tradition of children reciting poetry.

The grand final will take place next April in the Sheldonian Theatre, Oxford, as part of the Sunday Times Oxford Literary Festival.

It was inspired by Daisy Goodwin, the television presenter, author and poet.
