HAVE a go, have a laugh, get messy and relax, is the ethos of Newsome’s annual playday.

Parachute games, circus skills and sumo wrestling will be available to all ages.

Old fashioned fun can be had with family relays, a tug of war, three-legged, egg and spoon and sack races.

The playday, organised by Newsome Out to Play group, will take place between 11am and 4pm on Wednesday, August 18, at Ashenhurst Rec and the adjacent woods between Newsome Road and New Laithe Hill.

The woods will be used for treasure hunts, activity trails and den building.

A nature-themed fancy dress option is available to children, with a parade and judging taking place at 2pm.

Co-organiser Joanne Smithson said: “It’s a great opportunity to connect with the local community”.
