Police are hunting two masked robbers who launched an armed attack on a Newsome convenience store.

Brave Close Hill Food Centre owner, Anoop Kaur Lola, faced a terrifying ordeal when the pair burst into her shop at shortly after 8.15pm on Friday night.

She and her daughter, who was also in the Close Hill Lane shop, were left 'terribly shaken' but suffered no injuries in the dramatic event, which occurred  as she was getting ready to close for the night behind the till.

One of the men confronted her behind the counter and threatened her with a large pole shaped object, before demanding that she open the till.

Meanwhile the other man stopped and faced her on the customer side of the counter.

Anoop, 52, who re-opened her shop as normal the following day, said: "I was just getting ready to close the shop behind the till when I heard my daughter, who was talking to me from over the counter, scream and run through the shop into the back.

"I turned to my right and realised that a man who looked about six foot tall was pointing a large, pole shaped object at my head.

"I was so panicked I couldn't tell exactly what it was but I guess that it was either a bat or even a gun.

"He asked me to open the till so I did and said 'just take the money' because it's not worth getting injured over something like that.

"Fortunately I had just cashed up so they only took around £30 to £40 and one fake £20 note that he found when he searched under the counter then they ran out of the shop but it's left both me and my daughter terribly shaken.

"I don't think that they were expert robbers from the way they acted and I'm glad that they didn't damage any of the shop or make off with any goods.

"We were too upset to call the police but luckily one of our neighbours was in so they did it for us."

Police sent teams and a helicopter search into the area but were unable to trace them after they ran down Lockwood Scar.

Anoop, who was the victim of a previous armed robbery around seven years ago, said: "I really didn't want to have to come in this morning but you've got to when you are self-employed.

"We've had the shop for over 30 years and only ever had one incident like this before, luckily.

"But now that it's happened again we'll definitely be introducing more security, including cameras, so that this never happens again.

"I read about things like this happening every day in the paper now, which is very sad."

Detective inspector, Andy Leonard, said that police were still looking for the men and have launched an appeal for witnesses.

He said: "We have now opened an investigation and would ask that if anyone saw anything around the time of the incident, please get in touch."

Anyone with any information about the incident should call 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.

In unrelated investigations, police would like to speak to the people pictured in the image gallery below. The people pictured in the images may be witnesses as well as suspects. If you recognise anyone, contact police on 101 quoting the reference number on the image caption.
