DEPUTY Prime Minister Nick Clegg is returning to the campaign trail.

The Lib Dem leader, pictured, will visit Oldham East and Saddleworth on Wednesday as the party steps up its by-election campaign.

A further six Government ministers will visit the constituency this week, including former leader Charles Kennedy, deputy leader Simon Hughes and party president Tim Farron.

May’s General Election vote was declared void by an election court which found that victorious Labour candidate, Phil Woolas,

had made false statements about Lib Dem rival Elwyn Watkins.

Mr Watkins, the current candidate, said: “These are Government ministers who are making a real difference to people’s lives every day of the week. Their presence here shows how serious we are taking this election.”

The January 13 poll is viewed as the first major test of how the coalition Government of the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats will react as they intend to campaign against each other.

The full list of candidates in alphabetical order are: Debbie Abrahams (Labour); Derek Adams (British National Party); Kashif Ali (Conservative); Peter Allen (Green Party); David Bishop (Bus-Pass Elvis Party); The Flying Brick (Monster Raving Loony Party); Loz Kaye (Pirate Party of the United Kingdom); Stephen Morris (English Democrats); Paul Nuttall (UK Independence Party); Elwyn Watkins (Liberal Democrats).
