Officials at Huddersfield Town have apologised after pay-on-the-day away fans were charged £4 LESS than those who bought tickets in advance.

Some Blackburn Rovers supporters were left furious after Town’s last home game of the season.

Fans who bought tickets before the game were charged £24 but those who paid on the gate were charged just £20.

Rovers, backed by 1,087 fans at the John Smith’s Stadium last month, raised the issue with Town and the Football League.

Town blamed “human error” for the turnstile pricing blunder and chief executive Nigel Clibbens issued an apology to Rovers fans.

In a statement Mr Clibbens said: “Blackburn Rovers supporters paying on the day for the match highlighted that the walk-up price being charged at the turnstiles for away fans was less than the pre-purchase price.

“I can confirm the turnstile pricing for the walk-up Blackburn supporters was wrong.

“Instead of charging the same £24 adult price as the pre-purchase, a mistake was made and Blackburn fans paying on the gate were only charged £20.

“Circa 150 supporters gained a discounted entry saving £4 on what we should have charged. This should not have happened and has never occurred before in my seven years here. It was a genuine mistake.

“I fully understand the upset and confusion this would cause those Blackburn supporters who might feel they were overcharged and disadvantaged by buying in advance.

“We are sorry this happened. This was not intended and I apologise to those Blackburn supporters affected.”

Ironically, Town fans buying in advance paid just £5 a ticket in all home areas.
